In 2022, it was announced that The Batman, starring Robert Pattinson, will have its own cinematic universe. Following this claim, The Penguin series, following Colin Farrell's Oswald Cobbleplot, was announced to expand into the Batman world. Another bit of news came when he talked about how Matt Reeves, the director behind The Batman (2022) and the upcoming Batman 2 is also working on an Arkham Asylum series. There wasn't much information about this spinoff at the time. But now James Gunn has confirmed that Matt Reeves' Arkham Asylum spinoff series will take place in the new DCU. Previously, speculation for this series assumed that it could revolve around the inmates of Arkham Asylum along with The Riddler seen in The Batman and could have a possible appearance by Barry Keoghan's Joker.
