The new USB4 standard (Specification v2.0) is upon us. The next generation of the Universal Serial Bus (USB) interface will provide much higher speeds on many new laptops coming out this year. And on cue, support for the latest USB4 with speeds of 80 Gigabits per second has been added in a new Windows 11 Insider update.

USB4: What you need to know

The build is 23615, and qualified insiders can already get a Windows 11 ISO. Razer has already launched its gaming laptop Blade 18, with up to Intel Core i9-14900HX and support for the latest Thunderbolt 5 standard. The Thunderbolt 5 USB Type-C port on the Razer Blade 18 pairs and brings the latest USB 4 specification to the table.

With the new USB4 (v2.0), transfer speeds have basically doubled from the previous generation USB4 (v1.0), which supported 40 Gbps. Now the most modern USB4 standard supports 80 Gbps speeds. This is the first major upgrade to the USB4 standard.

The new USB4 port (version 2.0) supports backward compatibility with previous generation hubs and other accessories. There's more, besides upgrading transfer speeds. The new standard will meet the adequate bandwidth requirements of upcoming next-generation storage devices, displays and other connectivity solutions. Overall, a lot of useful utility expansion is delivered to the user thanks to the modern USB4 standard.
