Microsoft Mixed Reality headsets that offer immersive virtual reality experiences are disappearing. Suddenly, everyone who bought a VR headset, which cost them several hundred dollars, was simply told – "Windows Mixed Reality is deprecated and will be removed in a future version of Windows."

Elon Musk laughs at the idea of getting a PhD… and explains how you can actually be useful!

The news comes from the official Microsoft blog, where it mentions obsolete features in the Windows 11 operating system. When a feature is "phased out" by Microsoft, it basically becomes obsolete. This phase-out of the Windows Mixed Reality platform also extends to the Mixed Reality Portal app.

Additionally, it has been mentioned that the app for connecting Windows Mixed Reality VR hardware to the SteamVR platform is also being phased out. This is not a good sign at all for Microsoft's Mixed Reality and all the expensive VR hardware that people use to this day.

What if a user simply doesn't want to use the Mixed Reality platform but wants to continue using the VR headset for SteamVR games? It appears that this will no longer be possible on the latest version of Windows 11. Essentially, Windows Mixed Reality is ending now.
