Microsoft has fixed an issue that caused affected Windows computers to rush into BitLocker recovery.
Windows 10 KB5041580 Released Fix BitLocker Recovery Known Issue, Security & Bug fixes
The problem, which affected nearly all supported variants of Windows 11 and Windows 10, as well as versions of Windows Server dating back to 2008, occurred after the July 2024 Windows security update was installed.
Microsoft had said at the time, "You are more likely to encounter this issue if you have the Device Encryption option enabled in Settings under Privacy & Security."
Entering the BitLocker recovery allowed a Windows drive to boot normally, and let's face it – after the CrowdStrike incident, most administrators were very aware of where their recovery keys were.
