Thirty-eight flights were canceled at Japan's New Chitose Airport on Saturday after a pair of scissors went missing.
Here's the latest on the worldwide outage causing flight delays and cancellations
Japanese media reports that retail at the airport – which serves the regional city of Chitose on Japan's northernmost island of Hokkaido – is required to keep scissors in a locker. When the staff need to cut something, they retract the scissors and put them back when they are done cutting.
But on Saturday, an unnamed retailer at the airport couldn't find a pair of scissors. A prolonged search ensued, during which security checks for incoming passengers were paused for at least two hours.
Chaos ensued as queues extended, passengers were denied entry and airport officials tried to determine whether the scissors had been swiped by someone with intent.
