Masashi Kishimoto's love of Mobile Suit Gundam came into Kakuzu's fighting style in Naruto.
The failed student who created Naruto
Masashi Kishimoto has not avoided the surrounding collection of inspiration that can help improve Naruto. Ever since the series started, there had been one way or another that inspiration was taken. To create something of such a large scale, or anything at all, inspiration and motivation are the most important.
Of all the unique characters present in the story, one Akatsuki member is the black sheep even among the villains. His quest to achieve immortality came through horrible means. Enraged by his own failures, he did the unthinkable only to ensure that his own vitality increased as the days passed. But much to everyone's surprise, Kishimoto heavily based Kakuzu on Mobile Suit Gundam.
Masashi Kishimoto had always been a fan of Mobile Suit Gundam, so much so that he used to draw the mechanics all the time when he was a kid. He enjoyed illustrating the characters and was even captivated by them. So it would only make sense that parts of his passionate work made it into Naruto as well. Through Kakuzu, the mangaka paid tribute to one of his favorite shows.
