One of the more widely used Ubuntu spinoffs, non-techie-friendly Zorin has put out three releases of its latest version – Zorin OS 17.1 – and there are still more to come.

Zorin OS 17.1 is still based on the now almost two-year-old Ubuntu 22.04 "Jammy Jellyfish" release, which will soon be replaced by the new LTS release, 24.04 "Noble Numbat". However, it is based on the latest point release: Canonical released 22.04.4 in February, and it draws the kernel and graphics stack from Ubuntu 23.10 "Mantic". This means that Zorin OS 17.1 includes kernel 6.5.

Both paid and free editions include an assortment of desktop layouts, such as an upstream GNOME shell

Changing layouts is easy with Zorin Appearance, here shows the four free layouts, with the classic Windows layout active
