The government of the South Pacific island nation of New Zealand has revealed that it has also been attacked by China.
New Zealand PM vows to fight Chinese espionage
A Tuesday announcement written by Attorney General and Defense Secretary Judith Collins reveals that in 2021 the country's Government Communications Security Bureau (GCSB) and National Cyber Security Center (NCSC) "completed a robust technical assessment following a compromise by the Parliamentary Counsel Office and the Parliamentary Service in 2021, and have attributed this activity to a state-sponsored group in China called APT40."
The Parliamentary Advice Bureau drafts and publishes legislation, while the Parliamentary Service – as you can imagine – runs the nation's parliament.
Collins described networks at the two agencies as containing "vital information that enables the effective operation of the New Zealand government."
