"We will make an announcement about the successor to the Nintendo Switch this fiscal year"

Nintendo revealed THIS about Switch 2 this fiscal year!

Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa officially acknowledged that Nintendo is making a Switch successor — called Switch 2 by many, though not by Nintendo — in an announcement coinciding with the company's annual financial results. Yes, we all knew the Nintendo Switch successor was coming, but Nintendo hadn't said anything about the console before Furukawa's message.

"This is Furukawa, Nintendo's president," Furukawa said in the message posted to X. "We will be making an announcement about the successor to the Nintendo Switch within this fiscal year. It will have been over nine years since we announced the existence of the Nintendo Switch already in March 2015. We will be holding a Nintendo Direct in June regarding the Nintendo Switch software for the latter half of 2024, but please note that there will be no mention of the Nintendo Switch successor during that presentation."

Nintendo's fiscal year ended at the end of March, so the timeline for a Switch 2 announcement would be within a year of that time — before March 31, 2025. Nintendo confirmed via Furukawa's announcement that a Nintendo Direct is scheduled for June, but that the company won talk not about the new console there; that event will be entirely focused on Nintendo Switch games expected to come out in the second half of 2024.
