Airbnb guests will be happy to know their short-term rentals don't include indoor security cameras — when a change to the platform's community policy goes into effect at the end of April.

No more indoor security cameras in Airbnbs, says the rental platform

Airbnb posted news on Monday of its plan to ban the use of indoor security cameras in its listings. The use of security cameras indoors – only in common areas – was previously allowed.

"Our goal was to create new, clear rules that give our community greater clarity about what to expect on Airbnb," Juniper Downs, director of community policy and partnerships for the short-term rental disruptor, wrote in the post. "These changes were made in consultation with our guests, hosts and privacy experts, and we will continue to seek feedback to ensure our policies work for our global community."

Although Airbnb's legal regulations mean that indoor cameras are no longer allowed (they were never allowed in private spaces like bedrooms and bathrooms), the new policy still allows the devices to be installed outdoors — provided they are not aimed indoors or placed in outdoor areas such as ex. such as an outdoor shower or sauna where guests can reasonably expect privacy.
