George RR Martin has become the cultural net after The Simpsons mocked the time he's taking to finish Winds of Winter.

The Simpsons: George RR Martin doesn't want to write a new Game of Thrones book.

George RR Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire began back in 1996, with the release of his first book, A Game of Thrones. Adapted into a television series more than a decade and a half later, the book series was still not finished. However, it would be another eight years before the show came to an end, giving Martin plenty of time to finish his epic fantasy series.

It's been five years since the show ended, and there's still no sign of the penultimate book in the series, Winds of Winter, which will be followed by the grand finale, A Dream of Spring.

It's sort of become a cultural meme that George RR Martin is still working on The Winds of Winter, whose release seems to be just around the corner. However, it has become such a big issue that shows and sitcoms have started jokingly referencing the phenomenon, such as The Simpsons.
