Ever since gamers started using the social features on their consoles, they have been using them to share their gameplay, trophies, and best moments. Even Sony PlayStation consoles have had the X (formerly Twitter) integration feature for a long time, allowing them to do the same. However, recent changes in X's policies have forced companies to either pause or drop these services entirely. In a blow to PlayStation owners, Sony is now removing PS integration on Twitter. Read on to find out when and why.

Sony says it doubles your power! PS5 update!

The announcement comes from Sony's official page with important announcements. As mentioned there, starting November 13, 2023, gamers will no longer be able to use the X platform on their PlayStation 5 and 4 game consoles to view and share content. This will include using PS5/PS4 to view published content on X. Users will not even be able to view and post their trophies and other game activities.

It looks like it's becoming quite common to remove X integration from all sorts of places. Previously, Microsoft had also done the same thing on Xbox and Game Bar on Windows. While Sony didn't give users an explicit reason why the PlayStation and Twitter integration is going away, an educated guess can be made.

Before Elon Musk's takeover of Twitter, the pricing structure for having Twitter integration on a platform was nominal. However, after his takeover, there was a drastic change to this API pricing structure, and subsequently Twitter was disabled on Xbox consoles by Microsoft. While the company never said it was removing Twitter integration from Xbox due to the API price change, it seems very likely given the timing of the two events.
