In case you forgot, during Robin's flashback in Enie's Lobby arc (one of the best One Piece arcs), the elderly gentleman known as Clover was revealed to be the highly experienced professor and archaeologist in the Tree of Knowledge.
One Piece chapter 1120 featured a brief flashback of the conversation between Professor Clover and Dr. Vegapunk at Punk Hazard. The professor told Vegapunk his background of how one of his closest acquaintances, who carried the D in their name, was killed in front of him.
It turned out to be none other than Clover's older brother. Clover had to lie and pretend he was just a friend of his brother to save himself from the wrath of the Marines and the World Government that day. He could have been killed along with his brother just because they carried a certain initial – D – in their name.
