The OpenInfra Foundation has dropped an OpenStack update on the waiting world, and — like anyone else who can spell "virtualization" — has pitched it as a good option for those looking to move away from VMware.
OpenStack – The BEST way to build your own private cloud
OpenStack Caracal is perhaps most notable for being the first Skip Level Upgrade Release Process (SLURP) open source cloud project.
As The Register explained when SLURP was announced, OpenStack previously did not allow users who upgrade their code to skip versions. Running OpenStack therefore meant either keeping up twice a year, or occasional big-bang upgrades.
Neither scenario was ideal. SLURP addressed that to some extent by making annual upgrades possible without having to implement the release issued in between.
