Oracle CEO Safra Catz has opened up about the motivations driving the world's dominant enterprise software, database and cloud company forward.

Speaking to Nikkei Asia, the 25-year Oracle veteran said that despite the image suggesting otherwise, Oracle's true purpose was to help humanity.
"If you dig beneath the surface of everything we do, it's probably motivated by really trying to advance humanity," she explained in response to some tough questions asking how Oracle uses technology through its business to benefit society.
Katz responded that moving customers to the cloud — which Oracle is very much in favor of — means customers share resources and take advantage of "real economies of scale."
