It shouldn't work, but it does

how palworld became HATED by the internet | Palworld review

Palworld is developing like a fever dream for so many games I've played and loved.

I ran into its vast world riding the back of a mythical deer and caught cartoon creatures, as if it were a Pokemon game. These fights with the creatures feel frantic at points; the battle itself plays like a first-person shooter where I shoot monsters and dodge their attacks by rolling around like I would in a Soulslike game. After catching creatures such as a giant dinosaur that looks like a rubber toy, I realize that my character needs to eat, just like I would in Minecraft. Lucky for me, the food I scavenged and cooked at my base hasn't expired yet. I scarf it down and I'm good to go, so I jog across a stretch of wooded forest to get to a new waypoint in the vast natural world – just like I would in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

For some people, Palworld can be a little too much and too overwhelming because it collects elements from so many different games and genres. The fact that the game even works on a basic level feels like something of a miracle – a sentiment shared by the CEO of Pocketpair, the Japanese indie studio that created Palworld, who described the creation of Palworld as a "miracle". But as someone whose gaming tastes have been largely shaped by series like Pokemon, Fortnite, The Legend of Zelda, and Minecraft, the awkward hodgepodge of Palworld feels like it's tailor-made for me.
