Qualcomm may be leading the charge on Windows on Arm systems, but the company also has an eye on Linux support with a roadmap for updates to enable the operating system to boot on its Arm-based PC hardware.

Linux support for Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite revealed

The San Diego chip and telecom company launched its Snapdragon X Elite system-on-chip (SoC) last October for tablets and Windows on Arm laptops. The Corps has previously indicated it hopes for a push on such systems from vendors mid-year, to get ready for the back-to-school period.

Asus is reported to launch a laptop based on the Snapdragon X Elite at an event next week.

Qualcomm says it has already built Linux support into several generations of its SoCs running Windows on Snapdragon, and claims to be publishing initial patch sets for upstream Linux kernel support within days of announcing new Snapdragon silicon, and the Snapdragon X Elite is no different.
