A ransomware attack against nonprofit blood donation organization OneBlood, which serves more than 250 U.S. hospitals, has "significantly reduced" the organization's ability to collect, test and distribute blood.

In a statement today, OneBlood revealed that the breach disrupted a "software system" and had forced the organization to use manual processes and procedures to continue operating. The outfit donates blood to healthcare facilities in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina.

"Manual processes take significantly longer to complete and impact inventory availability," OneBlood spokeswoman Susan Forbes explained in a statement.
