The chaotic multi-verse jumping comedy is getting an anime makeover

Rick and Morty: The Anime | Thursday 15/8 | swimming for adults

More than two years after it was announced, the anime spin-off of Adult Swim's sci-fi comedy series Rick and Morty will finally explode onto TV screens next month. On Thursday, Adult Swim shared a new trailer from the upcoming series, revealing that it will premiere on August 15 and will run for a 10-episode season.

Directed by Takashi Sano (Tower of God), Rick and Morty: The Anime will (presumably) focus on the misadventures of different versions of the blue-haired mad scientist and his hapless grandson than those seen in the original series. The anime will see the Smith family embark on a series of bizarre anime-inspired escapades, from Morty's sister Summer and Space Beth fighting the Galactic Federation to Morty falling in love with a mysterious girl who may secretly be a multidimensional being. It looks like even Morty's father Jerry will get in on the action, wielding a Dragonslayer-esque sword à la Berserk's Guts and dangling above the mouth of a giant worm monster.

Ian Cardoni and Harry Belden, who began voicing Rick Sanchez and Morty Smith in the show's seventh season following the firing of co-creator Justin Roiland, will not return to voice their characters in this new series. Instead, Joe Daniels (Haikyu!!) and Gabriel Regojo (Made in Abyss) will voice Rick and Morty in the English version of Rick and Morty: The Anime, while Youhei Tadano and Keisuke Chiba – who previously voiced Rick and Morty in the Japanese dubbed version of Rick and Morty — will return to voice the characters in the Japanese version.
