Samsung Smart Watch detects atrial fibrillation in 30 seconds – AFib irregular heart rhythm

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has given Samsung the green light to introduce a new feature called Irregular Heart Rate Notification (IHRN) to its existing and upcoming smartwatches. The IHRN function will not be a standalone function. It is meant to integrate seamlessly with its pre-existing EKG function and the Samsung Health Monitor app.

Samsung believes its IHRN feature will help users avoid potential health risks stemming from cardiovascular disease. It is claimed that the feature can reduce the risk of stroke, heart failure and cardiovascular complications such as AFib. To use this feature, you just need to enable the feature. Your Galaxy Watch does the rest. It will constantly monitor your heartbeat and will only notify you when it is sure of a number of irregular beats using its BioActive Sensor. You will then be prompted for an EKG on your Samsung Galaxy Watch.

For those who don't know, Apple Watches already come with the functionality, and something similar is also found in Fitbit wearables.
