When you cross the Gravesite Plains and reach Scadu Altus for the first time in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree, you will see a message that says "Somewhere a Great Rune has Broken." For people who see this message, it may catch you off guard. I was freaked out for a few seconds when that happened in my game. But this message has story implications when it happens. So, what is this somewhere a large rune has broken message in the Ring of Fire? Let's find out!

What does SOMEWHERE A LARGE RUNE HAS MISSED mean?| Fire Ring Shadow of the Erdtree

After defeating Rellana, Twin Moon Knight and entering Scadu Altus, you must move to Shadow Keep. Right after you cross the camp in front of the Shadow Keep and reach the gates of the game's third central ancient dungeon, you'll get a message saying, "Somewhere a great rune has broken." Immediately after that message, the game says, "And so also has a powerful charm."

It is important to know that you will not receive this message outside of this location. This message indicates the progress of the game. So if you want to explore Scadu Altus, you can do so freely. However, if you are going to explore The Cerulean Fields, you must have received the message "Somewhere a great rune has broken" first. Otherwise you will be met by a yellow barrier that stops you.

Breaking the Great Rune breaks the barrier that prevents you from accessing this part of the map. So now you can explore the Cerulean Coast and visit a secret part of the map to access the Putrescent Knight boss fight.
