More than a month after a data center upgrade in April coincided with problems with some of its customers' backups, secure storage biz SpiderOak is still not fully operational, and some angry users say they are ready to cut ties.

The best free backup for EVERY operating system

The ongoing issues affect users of SpiderOak One, a software-based encrypted backup solution marketed as a way to protect data from ransomware and whatever else "life throws at you." SpiderOak also designs data protection and cybersecurity solutions for space-based operations.

Scores of users reported service issues following the upgrade, which began on April 24, venting their frustrations both to El Reg and via social media. Several spoke of an intention to cancel their subscriptions, some of which have been going for a decade. This follows a month where users say they have been unable to back up their data despite still paying their subscription fees.

The company reportedly honors those cancellation requests, refunding users and reimbursing annual subscribers for the months left on contracts they don't plan to use.
