Mod support is what people were curious and excited about when Bethesda first announced Starfield. After all, their previous titles had some of the most creative community modifications available. Naturally, all eyes turned to the game, and it seems Starfield Game Director Todd Howard is aware of it. According to a recent interview, we could get mod support for Starfield as early as next year. So if you were expecting custom planets, quests and structures, you might have to wait a while.

In a recent post-launch interview with Japanese publication Famitsu, Todd talked about how much the game has evolved over the years, his love of space, his inspiration for the title, and post-launch blues. Among these specific questions, Famitsu Todd questioned when we can expect official mod support; and when will we get a chance to create custom quests, creatures and planets in the game.

Todd confirmed that players will have the ability to modify the game from start to finish. He also claimed that the game will gain mod support sometime next year. He added that the developers at Bethesda Game Studios love the opportunity that mods bring, so they will "do it in a big way."

It's interesting that Fallout 4, Bethesda's previous single-player RPG, received official mods six months after the game's launch. That hardly stopped modders from tinkering with the game before then. The same can be said for Starfield, as modders have released several great Starfield mods that bring UI/UX and lighting changes.
