Computex SuperMicro CEO Charles Liang expects liquid cooling to be installed in 30 percent of the racks the company ships next year — huge growth, considering the market for such kits has been moribund for decades.

In his keynote address at Taiwan's Computex event, Liang revealed that SuperMicro has been building 1,000 racks a month equipped with direct liquid cooling (DLC) and can ship them out the door just two to four weeks after receiving an order. The CEO claimed it's a huge improvement on liquid cooling lead times, which he claimed have previously been four months to a year.
Liang told the audience that SuperMicro expects 15 percent of racks sold this year to use DLC and 30 percent to use it next year.
That growth represents a breakthrough for liquid cooling—a technology that Liang claimed has earned just one percent market share in the thirty years it's been available.
