Takeshi's Castle had some of the most challenging physical obstacles that made it almost impossible to win the game.

The truth about Takeshi's castle and its winner

Takeshi's Castle was a global phenomenon that introduced a genre of game shows that involved physical challenges. To win the competition, players had to overcome all these obstacles to reach Takeshi Kitano's castle. The winner received a prize of one million yen (which was roughly equivalent to $8,000 at the time). But fans of the competition rarely got to see a winner.

The challenges were so difficult that only eight contestants/teams have ever won the match show. In 2023, Amazon Prime Video revived the series after 34 years with Romesh Ranganathan and Tom Davis commentating on the UK version. Previously, the original program was canceled in 1990 after four years despite its immense popularity.

Takeshi's Castle ran between 1986 and 1990 and involved around 100 to 142 contestants. These contestants were forced into a series of physical challenges by General Lee, a role played by Hayato Tani. Each episode concluded the series of challenges with a group of finalists pitted against Count Takeshi, played by Japanese comedian Takeshi Kitano.
