Christopher McQuarrie is easily one of the most lauded filmmakers in the entire Hollywood entertainment industry, with masterpieces like the Mission Impossible film franchise. While his countless action works with Tom Cruise – such as Top Gun: Maverick – are one thing, he has landed award-winning pieces in the crime/thriller genre as well.

The perfect example of this is his 1995 critically acclaimed thriller/crime with filmmaker Bryan Singer, The Usual Suspects. To say the least, the film won him a BAFTA and an Oscar for his admirable excellence. But all might not have been possible had it not been for McQuarrie's greatest stroke of genius in creating one of the best screenplays ever!

Already in the early 1990s, after the release of Public Access, McQuarrie and Bryan Singer were already looking forward to collaborating again. During this time, the duo, surprisingly, had incredibly similar ideas regarding their next project, resulting in the 1995 fan-favorite crime thriller The Usual Suspects.
