Google has taken another step in its quest to provide people with many security and privacy features with the introduction of the Data Security section of the Google Play Store. This new privacy feature, announced last year, will tell users what data is being collected by apps, much like Apple's nutrition labels in the App Store.

With the new data security section, Google requires app developers to provide users with information such as how their data is collected by the apps. To recall, it was previously expected to go live in February this year.

The section primarily shows information about whether an app collects user data and for what purpose, and whether the app complies with Google Play's family policy. It also answers the question of whether user data is shared with third parties or not. It also highlights the app developers' security measures taken to protect user data.

Google says in a blog post that it is not enough to simply show what data the app collects and that more information is required. Therefore, it designed the Data Security section to enable developers to clearly mark what data is collected and for what purpose it is used. Users can also see if the app needs this data to function or if this data collection is optional."
