An unlikely alliance between a former CIA agent and FBI assistant director led to a huge cat-and-mouse game in Season 1 of the FX series The Old Man. Jeff Bridges and John Lithgow star in the series, which is based on the best-selling novel of the same name by Thomas Perry. The series debuted to critical acclaim in the summer of 2022, landing a 97% on Rotten Tomatoes. It received two Primetime Emmy nominations, including Jeff Bridges for the lead role.

The Old Man Season 2 Trailer | 'Coming Up This Season'

Season 2 follows former CIA agent Dane Chase and former FBI Assistant Director Harold Harper as they embark on a mission to recover Emily Chase after Faraz Hamzad, a powerful Afghan tribal leader kidnaps her. All three men claim that Emily is their daughter, causing her to suffer an identity crisis with huge consequences.

The Old Man Season 1 worked because it felt like it was going to be a miniseries or limited series until the finale when you saw more would come. I didn't think it needed a second season, but Bridges and Lithgow made a dynamic pair. The series jump begins with the duo reuniting on their way to Afghanistan to begin their rescue of Emily. It is not easy, as they face many obstacles on the way.

Jeff Bridges and John Lithgow are no slouch, and watching them navigate Afghanistan only reinforced that. For me to be attached to this story, there has to be a believability factor to what is happening. Unfortunately, the sluggish display of movement almost completely took me out of the show. I don't blame Bridges and Lithgow for doing what the script says, but this doesn't work.
