Apple may delay the launch of the next-generation iPadOS 16 by a month, which was otherwise expected to be available to the general public in September. This is somewhat unusual as new iterations of iOS and iPadOS tend to be released at the same time. iOS 16, on the other hand, will be released in September, according to the schedule.

A report from Bloomberg reveals that Apple may release the iPadOS 16 in October due to the problems it has been facing with its Stage Manager feature. For the uninitiated, the feature will help improve the iPad's multitasking capabilities, allowing users to resize windows as they choose, open multiple apps at once, and even overlap windows into a single view. And it provides support for external display.

Stage Manager, in its beta versions, has been a somewhat problematic feature, prone to bugs and a not-so-user-friendly interface. Additionally, it has received criticism due to its limited compatibility with iPads. Apple has revealed that iPadOS 16's Stage Manager feature will only reach iPads with an M1 chip.

The company explained that this is because Apple's virtual memory swap feature (which Stage Manager relies heavily on) is only supported by M1 iPads. The feature allows apps to use more RAM (retrieved from storage) to run efficiently. This functionality is resource intensive and currently works best with the M1 chip.
