Shanks could never be a villain in One Piece and that can be proven just by observing his fight against Kid.

Oda's ORIGINAL plan to end One Piece was INSANE!

Shanks, the commander of the Red Hair Pirates is the center of many otaku debates. His loyalty is questioned and he is often considered the hidden villain of One Piece, never mind the fact that he saved Luffy in the very first chapter/episode.

But over the years, Shanks has shown understanding and care for his crew as well as other potential rivals in a way that is unparalleled. So it's very easy to deny the argument that Shanks is a villain. In fact, the fight against Kid proved why Shanks can't be an antagonist in One Piece.

Chapter 1079 of One Piece saw a one-sided annihilation of the Kid crew. In the chapter Shanks tells the pirates to clear out before he attacks so they don't get hurt. This proved that Shanks, despite being a tough pirate, is not a bad person.
