James Wan's upcoming remake of the classic Monster movie may incorporate ideas from his scrapped DCEU project.

James Wan will finally return to his horror roots with his upcoming film, which will be the remake of 1954's Creature from the Black Lagoon, which is often seen as one of Universal's last great monster movies. The creator of the Conjuring series, who previously helmed the DCEU's Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, will take a more grounded approach with the remake.
Additionally, it appears the director may bring back concepts from his scrapped DCEU film, which was set to hit theaters before the brand's swan song.
Originally, James Wan was set to helm an Aquaman spin-off, titled The Trench, which was slated for release in 2019. While not much is known about the film, The Conjuring filmmaker later revealed that it would be a Black Manta film . But as the story goes, like many planned releases under the Walter Hamana regime, it was ultimately scrapped.
