Spiner's character was already killed off twice in the Star Trek movies and the first season by Picard.

The Star Trek: The Next Generation cast finally got a beautiful reunion and conclusion in the form of Star Trek: Picard. The TNG cast reprized their roles in the four films but never got a proper finale with Star Trek: Nemesis showing Data's death. However, the final season of Picard saw the return of Brent Spiner's Data, albeit in a new way.

While the world rejoiced at the reunion of the beloved crew, a character from the cast reportedly showed their disdain for Data's return. When the entire cast reunited, Michael Dorn's Worf can be seen unimpressed by the new Data as he knew it wasn't the original android they loved.

Actor Brent Spiner has reportedly agreed to return to Star Trek: Picard after the studio convinced him in various ways and, according to him, threw a lot of money at him. The actor had played Data in Star Trek: The Next Generation and had become a fan favourite. However, the character had died in Star Trek: Nemesis.
