British nuclear fusion company Tokamak Energy has formed a separate division to commercialize the superconducting magnet technology it developed for reactors in other markets, including renewable energy or transport.
Pioneering HTS magnets for commercial fusion power
The Oxfordshire-based company last year teamed up with General Atomics in the US to work on high-temperature superconducting magnets for fusion reactors, and also claims to have contracts with Los Alamos National Laboratory and Oak Ridge National Laboratory in the state.
Tokamak has now formed a separate business division called TE Magnetics to develop commercial applications of the high-temperature superconducting (HTS) magnet technology it has developed for the nuclear industry.
TE Magnetics will continue as a wholly owned subsidiary of Tokamak Energy for the time being, but it is possible that the parent company may discontinue the division at some point in the future.
