WhatsApp spam is undoubtedly on the rise in India and in order to combat it, the messaging platform started testing a new feature to avoid these calls. This effort to curb spam now takes another step as Meta has now partnered with Truecaller. Here's a look at what it's all about.

Good news for users! Truecaller to work with WhatsApp to detect spam calls and messages

Truecaller has announced the introduction of its Caller ID service for WhatsApp as part of a recent partnership. For those of you who are not aware, Truecaller is a Swiss based service provider known for its extensive caller ID filtering and identification technology, quite popular in India.

Truecaller CEO Alan Mamedi commented via Reuters, "Over the past two weeks, we've seen an increase in user reports from India of spam calls over WhatsApp."

Spam calls are a real problem with users facing as many as 17 spam calls daily according to a Truecaller report 2021. Therefore, it is imperative to reduce and at best eradicate the problem completely. Right now, it's unclear how Truecaller will approach this partnership. Moving past Trucaller's vanilla spam call notification, we can expect a floating banner to appear on your home screen every time you receive a call from an unknown number on WhatsApp.
