In a rally held Saturday in Wildwood, New Jersey, former US President Donald Trump promised that his first day back in office would include the destruction of offshore wind farms.

'I never understood wind': Trump goes on bizarre tirade against windmills

"We will make sure it ends on day one," the Guardian quoted the embattled politician and alleged billionaire as saying. "I'm going to put it in an executive order. It's going to end on day one."

Trump has been an opponent of wind power for years, complaining about the way wind farms look, accusing them of killing "all the birds" and now claiming offshore wind farms are "killing the whales". However, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), there is no evidence to suggest that offshore wind turbines have a taste for whale blood.

The former president may have a point with birds and wind turbines in general, as the American Bird Conservancy says between 500,000 and a million birds or so are killed each year by turbines, based on limited data. That said, the group suggests making wind energy more bird-friendly rather than dismantling the entire industry.
