Fate certainly has an uncanny sense of irony. As evidenced by a young Robert Downey Jr. who would never have seen himself as the mighty Iron Man, the role that launched him as Tony Stark in the bankable Iron Man franchise. But now a dramatic character shift is on the horizon for Downey Jr., who trades his armor for Doctor Doom's suits.

This twist of life was something the actor had never imagined. But in a previous interview, he admitted how he transformed into the very figure he once thought was way beyond his grasp.

Iron Man made Robert Downey Jr. to a household name and one of the most bankable actors in the industry. But despite the character's popularity in the comics, the actor mentioned in a GQ interview how his younger self would have been surprised by his current success.
