Uncle Sam took another swipe at Kaspersky Lab today, sanctioning a dozen C-suite and senior executives at the antivirus maker, but sparing CEO and co-founder Eugene Kaspersky.

What's next for Kaspersky after US sanctions?

The move prevents US persons and organizations from doing business with the designated individuals. Any non-US financial institution working with them also risks sanctions under Executive Order 13873.

The U.S. Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) cited national security threats in designating the 12 individuals sanctioned. In the announcement, it also noted: "OFAC has not named Kaspersky Lab, its parent or subsidiary companies, or its CEO."

However, the Ministry of Finance appointed almost all other managers who report directly to the Moscow-based company's CEO "to operate in the technology sector of the economy of the Russian Federation," which according to EO 14024 is a no-no.
