Unmatched, the massive action board game series from Restoration Games, sends its latest standalone expansion to the world today. Titled Unmatched: Slings and Arrows, The Bard stars himself, the master William Shakespeare, alongside a handful of his most memorable creations. If you've ever taken second grade English language arts or, gods forbid, actually studied English literature like I have, it's a treat.
In Unmatched, players take on the role of beloved pop culture characters only to pit them against each other in 1v1 or 2v2 battles. The system relies on action cards to power its combat, as well as collectible game boards that provide unique restrictions on movement and line of sight. But beyond the solid foundation of the game, the franchise is best known for its ever-growing collection of characters that include Robin Hood, Ms. Marvel, Houdini and Bruce Lee, to name just a few. It's the only modern board game I know of that lets you pit Spider-Man against the cast of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and then let the Jurassic Park raptors take on the winner.
