Last year we heard about the iPhone 13 getting satellite connectivity but that didn't happen. It turns out that this year's iPhone 14 is on track to get this feature, and even the next-generation Apple Watch, possibly the Apple Watch Series 8, could come with satellite connectivity, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. Here are the details.

Gurman revealed via his latest "Power On" newsletter that the Apple Watch is "destined" to get support for satellite connectivity, which could either happen for this year's Apple Watch or for the 2023 model.

The newsletter also reiterates that the iPhone 14 series will come with support for satellite connectivity, which the iPhone 13 couldn't get because the functionality wasn't ready to launch. The series is also expected to get four iPhone models, a new design, 48 MP cameras and much more this year.

For the uninitiated, satellite connectivity will help users send short messages to emergency contacts when there is no mobile coverage, contrary to the earlier belief that it is used for calls. Apple is said to be partnering with Globalstar Inc for this. It is suggested that Globalstar Inc entered into an agreement to buy 17 new satellites for an unnamed "potential" customer, which could be Apple.
