Huawei's launch of its latest MateBook Pro X, which uses Intel's latest Meteor Lake CPU, has drawn the ire of Republican US congressmen.

14th Gen Intel CPU – Meteor Lake

Unveiled last week, the all-new Huawei laptop is known to use one of Intel's current generation Meteor Lake-based Core Ultra processors, which has a dedicated neural processing unit (NPU) to speed up AI workloads.

While Huawei's access to Western technology is severely limited by US sanctions, it can still buy Intel processors thanks to a license it has held since late 2020.

The fact that Huawei could use Intel's latest CPUs has sparked an uproar from Republican lawmakers, according to Reuters. "One of the biggest mysteries in Washington, DC is why the Commerce Department continues to allow US technology to be sent to Huawei," said Rep. Michael Gallagher, chairman of the China Select Committee, in a statement.
