Vegeta can find his own place in the Dragon Ball franchise rather than being in Goku's shadow.

Gohan's HAD ENOUGH of Goku… #shorts

Dragon Ball Super has been on indefinite hiatus for the longest time and the reason for this is more than understandable. Ever since Akira Toriyama's passing, the franchise has suffered a thorn following the unexpected tragedy. Over the many decades that Dragon Ball's story has continued, there has been constant development that helps it grow more and more, through characters and through the plot.

Goku started out as the protagonist of the series but also made way for Vegeta eventually. While the Saiyan prince never got to properly take the spotlight for himself, there have been many moments that showcased his potential as a plausible protagonist to replace the most iconic Shonen hero. While Goku with each final arc is always the one to correctly defeat the antagonists, Super can change everything.

A theory by @fakevilgax on Reddit posits the idea that Goku's reign as a protagonist would not be as overshadowing as those around him. Despite Vegeta being his ally for the longest time, even posing as a secondary protagonist, the moment to shine never quite reaches its full level as it's always Goku who gets to defeat the enemies once and for all regardless of the arc.
