If you're confused about what makes a PC an "AI PC," you're not alone. But we finally have something of an answer: if it packs a GPU, a processor that has a neural processing unit and can handle VNNI and Dp4a instructions, it qualifies—at least according to Robert Hallock, Intel's senior director of technical marketing.

Intel Core Ultra explained

Fortunately, that combination is found in Intel's current generation of mobile processors aka Core Ultra, aka "Meteor Lake". All models have a GPU, NPU and can handle Vector Neural Network Instructions (VNNI) which speeds up some – surprise! – neural network tasks and the DP4a instructions that help GPUs process video.

Therefore, since AI PCs are only computers with current processors, Intel does not consider "AI PC" to be a mark that indicates compliance with a spec or a certain capability not found in other computers.

Intel used the "Centrino" brand to distinguish Wi-Fi-enabled PCs, and did likewise by naming home entertainment PCs the "Viiv" name. Chipzilla still uses the tactic with "vPro" – a brand name that denotes processors that include manageability and security for business users.
