The Flash was a spin-off of the 2012 show, Arrow and part of the same fictional universe, called the Arrowverse. The show premiered on October 7, 2014 and ran for nine seasons until May 24, 2023. It received a positive response from audiences and even won the People's Choice Award for Favorite New Television Drama of 2014.

Most fans don't know that it was originally intended to be a backdoor pilot, but Grant Gustin's positive audience reception sealed the deal. The actor appeared twice on Arrow and his portrayal of Barry Allen won audiences over. Another aspect that got him the role was Gustin's chemistry with actress Emily Bett Rickards aka, Felicity. The creators wanted to explore the couple and their possible romance inspired an entire show.
