In general, day-to-day London style is casual but more dressy than American style. This DOES NOT mean business clothing. Think nice blouse plus tailored jeans (dark colors are always a good choice). Like anywhere, pack for the environment.

What clothes do people wear in England? As the UK is very much a western society – we wear very much the same as any other modern western society – ranging from Jeans and Tee shirts (whether with designer labels or not) to full business suits for office work (if required).

Fashions influenced by royal courts Figured silks with elaborate pomegranate or artichoke patterns are still seen in this period, especially in Spain, but a lighter style of scrolling floral motifs, woven or embroidered, was popular, especially in England.

Men would wear a tunic with a belt, a cloak and trousers. Women wore floor-length skirts or dresses made of wool or linen and wore shawls or cloaks. Cloaks were made from wool and fastened by brooaches and pins.

They found the Stone Age Briton had dark hair – with a small probability that it was curlier than average – blue eyes and skin that was probably dark brown or black in tone. This combination might appear striking to us today, but it was a common appearance in western Europe during this period.

WELSH ARE THE TRUE BRITONS The Welsh are the true pure Britons, according to the research that has produced the first genetic map of the UK. Scientists were able to trace their DNA back to the first tribes that settled in the British Isles following the last ice age around 10,000 years ago.

The modern English are genetically closest to the Celtic peoples of the British Isles, but the modern English are not simply Celts who speak a German language. A large number of Germans migrated to Britain in the 6th century, and there are parts of England where nearly half the ancestry is Germanic.

The Scots, Welsh and Irish are descended from clans called Celts. England is a hotpotch of clans and tribes which united under the much maligned King Alfred (who was actually a decent King) in the 1000s. England was made up of Angles, Saxons, Wessex, Mercians, Picts etc.

The seven Celtic nations The Celtic League and the International Celtic Congress bring together Ireland, Wales, Scotland, the Isle of Man, the French Brittany and Conualles – nations united by languages with a Celtic origin, and that have become the most known and recognised heirs of the culture.

Even the English are rather Anglo-Celts than Anglo-Saxons, and still more certainly is Anglo-Celtic a more accurate term than Anglo-Saxon, not only for that British nationality which includes the Scots, the Irish and the Welsh; but also for that Britannic race, chief elements in the formation of which have been Welsh.

Instead, a research team at Oxford University has found the majority of Britons are Celts descended from Spanish tribes who began arriving about 7,000 years ago. Even in England, about 64 per cent of people are descended from these Celts, outnumbering the descendants of Anglo- Saxons by about three to one.

There is no genetic relationship between Vikings and Celts, but they lived next to each other around 1000 BC, and the Celtic culture had a deep influcence on ancient Germanic people. Therefore, they have much in common.

To them great stature, fair hair, and blue or grey eyes were the characteristics of the Celt. It is distinguished by a long head, a long face, a narrow aquiline nose, blue eyes, very light hair and great stature. Those are the peoples usually termed Teutonic by modern writers.

The Brythonic languages were assumed to have come from Gaul (France), whilst the Goidelic languages were given an Iberian (Spain, Portugal) origin. During the 18th century, people who spoke Celtic languages were seen as Celts. The ancient inhabitants of Wales, were therefore increasingly known as Celts.

On average, the ORIGINAL Celts were of medium height and complexion, had mainly dark brown to reddish hair and brown and hazel eyes, according to archaeologists and physical anthropologists. There were blond haired blue eyed types in the mix as well, but a minority.
