A long-standing nickname for Mars is the “Red Planet”. That is also the planet’s name in Hebrew, מאדים ma’adim, which is derived from אדום adom, meaning ‘red’.

During opposition, Mars and the sun are on directly opposite sides of Earth.

The Mars symbol, ♂, is a depiction of a circle with an arrow emerging from it, pointing at an angle to the upper right. As astrological symbol it represents the planet Mars.

However, the surface is not hospitable to humans or most known life forms due to the radiation, greatly reduced air pressure, and an atmosphere with only 0.16% oxygen. Human survival on Mars would require living in artificial Mars habitats with complex life-support systems.

Venus

The average temperature on Venus is 864 degrees Fahrenheit (462 degrees Celsius). Temperature changes slightly traveling through the atmosphere, growing cooler farther away from the surface. Lead would melt on the surface of the planet, where the temperature is around 872 F (467 C).

Of the objects that orbit the Sun directly, the largest are the eight planets, with the remainder being smaller objects, the dwarf planets and small Solar System bodies….Solar System.

The hottest planet in the solar system is Venus with an average temperature of 464 degree Celsius and the coldest planet in the solar system is Pluto with an average temperature of -225 degree Celsius.

Mercury

Venus is sometimes called Earth’s twin because Venus and Earth are almost the same size, have about the same mass (they weigh about the same), and have a very similar composition (are made of the same material). They are also neighboring planets.

Venus is a terrestrial planet and is sometimes called Earth’s “sister planet” because of their similar size, mass, proximity to the Sun, and bulk composition.

Earth

The idea of a second sun in our solar system is not as bizarre as it might sound. In fact, Alpha Centauri, our solar system’s nearest neighbor, is a binary system. Astronomers estimate that around half of all stars in our galaxy have at least one companion.

As of yet, no one has ever witnessed this phenomena in action – but that may be about to change! According to study from a team of researchers from Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan, a binary star system that will likely merge and explode in 2022.

The Sun itself is not a good place for living things, with its hot, energetic mix of gases and plasma. But the Sun has made life on Earth possible, providing warmth as well as energy that organisms like plants use to form the basis of many food chains.

As with all matter, the sun emits a “black body spectrum” that is defined by its surface temperature. So, the sun actually emits energy at all wavelengths from radio to gamma ray. But, as can be seen in the image above, it emits most of its energy around 500 nm, which is close to blue-green light.

What if we had a blue sun? Though the sun may appear yellow or reddish to the naked eye, it’s actually an ordinary white star. And the blue version released by NASA was made using a specific wavelength of ultraviolet light known as CaK, which is emitted by ionized calcium in the sun’s atmosphere.

Blue Sun is a megacorporation in the Firefly Universe. Joss Whedon has described it as the company that would result from the merger of Microsoft and McDonalds.

It’s because the particles of dust from the storm scatter and absorb longer wavelengths of red light, which is what our eyes would normally see. This reduction of red light makes the Sun look blue.

At 29 times bigger than the Sun, it is not the largest star yet found, but it is the most luminous, shining at a whopping 8.7 million solar luminosities with its incredible surface temperature of about 53,000K. It also has somewhere between 265 and 315 solar-masses, making it the most massive star yet discovered.
