A democratic government is a better government because it is a more accountable form of government. Democracy improves the quality of Decision Making. Democracy provides a method to deal with differences and conflicts. Democracy allows people to correct their own mistakes.

• Consultation in a democracy from many people leads to delays.
• Not knowing the best interest of the people by the elected leaders leads to bad decisions.
• Democracy leads to corruption for it is based on electoral competition.

What are the merits of electoral competition

• This system works better in the long run.
• It gives every party an equal chance to compete against each other.
• It leads to the foundation of a well developed society.
• Regular electoral competition provides incentives to political parties and leaders.

An electoral competition has many demerits. It creates a sense of disunity and factionalism in every locality. Different political parties and leaders often level allegations against one another. Parties and candidates use dirty tricks to win elections.
