Climate changes were most likely the cause of this phenomenon as the continents all drifted together to form Pangaea. As devastating this mass extinction was, it paved the way for new species to arise and a new era to begin.

The conflict leads to the Empire’s dissolution as its territories in Morrowind, High Rock, and Cyrodiil break away. The war ends in 1E 420 with the Pact of Chieftains.

An era is a span of time defined for the purposes of chronology or historiography, as in the regnal eras in the history of a given monarchy, a calendar era used for a given calendar, or the geological eras defined for the history of Earth.

Triassic. The Triassic ranges roughly from 252 million to 201 million years ago, preceding the Jurassic Period. The Early Triassic, about 252 to 247 million years ago, was dominated by deserts in the interior of the Pangaea supercontinent.

Geologists divide the time between Precambrian and the present into three long units called eras (Paleozoic, Mesozoic, Cenozoic). At the end of each era a major mass extinction occurred, many kinds of organisms died out, although there were other extinctions going on during each period of geologic time.

Something finished, gone and never returns, is what it usually takes to mark the “end of an era”. For example, the last amphibious species that go extinct in the Amazon, marks the end of an era for the amphibious life on the planet.

The four main ERAS are, from oldest to youngest: PreCambrian, Palaeozoic, Mesozoic and Cenozoic.
