A THERMOMETER measures the air temperature. Most thermometers are closed glass tubes containing liquids such as alcohol or mercury. When air around the tube heats the liquid, the liquid expands and moves up the tube.

In order to predict the weather, meteorologists constantly gather information about weather conditions everywhere on Earth. This information is collected using specialized equipment. A barometer measures atmospheric pressure, a thermometer measures the temperature, and an anemometer measures wind speed and direction.

Hard Reset: Once you have verified that you are using recommended batteries, please remove the batteries for a full two minutes to allow the unit to power down completely before replacing batteries. Rain Gauge Calibration Check You may, like others, check the calibration by pouring a set amount of water into the rain gauge at a set flow rate to simulate rainfall at a specific rate per hour. This should cause the data logger to measure a fixed amount of rainfall.

A roof-top works the best. Try to place the anemometer as high as is convenient. Try to make the anemometer the highest object around. 7 feet or more above the surrounding obstructions is best.
