While Don Quixote represents illusion, Sancho Panza represents reality. They complement each other in a dualistic way. By coming together they construct one person who consists of a mind and a body.

The plot of Don Quixote, a Spanish novel written in 1605, contains some of the best representations of this vision. Considered a founding work of modern Western literature, the novel’s message that individuals can be right while society is wrong was considered radical for its day.

Cervantes was very intentional when delivering the character of Don Quixote. Many times he seems outright crazy but on a second deep thought one would actually think,is he insane or just misunderstood. In the beginning he is definitely insane or probably just pretends to be.

Parents need to know that there is a surprisingly high level of violence for a book that looks like it’s for middle graders. Most of it is played for laughs, but it involves severe beatings with serious and lasting injuries.
