The word “TYPHOON” comes from the Chinese language and from the Chinese word “Tai-fhong” which means a strong wind.

A typhoon is a giant, rotating storm that brings wind, rain, and destruction. Hurricanes and typhoons are both kinds of tropical cyclones.

typhoon (n.) It apparently is from tufan, a word in Arabic, Persian, and Hindi meaning “big cyclonic storm.” Yule [“Hobson-Jobson,” London, 1903] writes that “the probability is that Vasco [da Gama] and his followers got the tufao direct from the Arab pilots.”

verb. If you suspend something, you delay it or stop it from happening for a while or until a decision is made about it.

Some common synonyms of suspend are defer, postpone, and stay. While all these words mean “to delay an action or proceeding,” suspend implies temporary stoppage with an added suggestion of waiting until some condition is satisfied.

To hold or prolong (a note or notes) in suspension. verb. 1. 1. To fail to make payments or meet obligations.

To hang so as to allow free movement: suspended the mobile from the ceiling. b. To support or keep from falling without apparent attachment, as by buoyancy: The manatee is suspended in the water.

If freely suspended, one pole will point toward the north. The two poles are thus named the north magnetic pole and the south magnetic pole (or more properly, north-seeking and south-seeking poles, for the attractions in those directions).

Solution: A freely suspended magnet always rests in the north-south direction because the magnetic south pole of the earth lies in the geographic north direction and the magnetic north pole of the earth lies in the geographical south direction.

A freely-suspended bar magnet aligns itself in north-south direction because the earth acts like a huge bar magnet with its North Pole facing towards geographic South Pole and magnetic South Pole towards geographic North Pole.

Every magnet has two sides: a north pole and a south pole. This is because the Earth’s core (its centre) is a large, weak magnet. Your little, strong magnet lines up with Earth’s magnetic core, so it points north.

Because of the earth’s magnetic field, the magnetic field of the earth’s metallic core aligns its North toward the actual north. So a freely suspended magnet would align itself northwards towards the North of the earth’s magnet.

Demagnetize a Magnet by Heating or Hammering If you heat a magnet past the temperature called the Curie point, the energy will free the magnetic dipoles from their ordered orientation. The long-range order is destroyed and the material will have little to no magnetization.

It is possible to re-magnetize a magnet that has lost its magnetic properties, but as long as the alignment of its internal particles has not been modified for any reason, such as, for example, the exposure of these elements to high temperatures.

The forces of attraction and repulsion get very small far away from the magnet. You can also redirect the magnetic flux lines into a loop to reduce the field strength away from the magnet. The easist way to do this is to put a bar of iron (like a nail) across the two poles of a horseshoe magnet.

To date, no one has ever found a magnetic monopole in nature – we’ve never found a magnet that is truly north or truly south. “While we can find electric monopoles in the form of charged particles, we have never observed magnetic monopoles.”

A magnetic monopole does not exist. Just as the two faces of a current loop cannot be physically separated, magnetic North pole and the South pole can never be separated even on breaking a magnet to its atomic size. A magnetic field is produced by an electric field and not by a monopole.

To our knowledge, it is not possible to produce a permanent magnet with only a single pole. Every magnet has at least 2 poles, a north and a south pole (see FAQ about north pole). The existence of magnetic monopoles itself does not contradict current popular theories.
